Rubber (2010) review

Posted : 11 years, 5 months ago on 19 January 2013 09:00 (A review of Rubber (2010))

This movie was shot in a decent way and had some decent acting, but that was it. I watched only because of other people talking about it. I thought it was really stupid and didn't make any sense from beginning to end. Lame. Seemed like a "I thought of this when I was drunk" idea.
There were a bunch of scenes that I did appreciate the way they were shot though. I loved the tricycle at the end. Oh and the scene of the "tire" watching a Nascar race.... classic. LOL

Inkubus review

Robert Englund, we need to see more of you! Good movie on many different scales, but not great. Robert Englund was successful in creating a fearful character who could pop up at any time and do incredibly distasteful things.
The other actors didn't fare so well. But the story and the gore were decent.

Grim Reaper (2007) review

Posted : 11 years, 6 months ago on 6 January 2013 08:50 (A review of Grim Reaper (2007))

The beginning was a tad foggy as to what was going on. The storyline became clearer as Rachel woke up in the mental hospital. I wish the characters at the hospital had been fleshed out more. There was potential for you to care if they died or not and that didn't happen.
The end of how Rachel gets out alive (or not) seemed lame at wrapping the whole grim reaper thing up.
Great ending moment though.

V/H/S review

Posted : 11 years, 6 months ago on 6 January 2013 03:20 (A review of V/H/S)

Disappointed. There were certain "tapes" that were interesting, but most had weird camera effects that I didn't appreciate. I felt they were just weird.
Otherwise I think there were some really creative twists in the endings of certain tapes. Thumbs up on the gore, thumbs down on almost every female showing their tits. Nudity is not a must in horror - although I did think the gang bang gone zombie tape was interesting. Too bad they didn't take any one of these short tales and expand it into a movie. Or put more effort into the original story line.

Someone's Knocking at the Door review

Posted : 11 years, 7 months ago on 6 December 2012 01:30 (A review of Someone's Knocking at the Door)

This was categorized as "weird" on the FrightPix channel (Roku). It definitely was a weird movie. It begins with a man being raped and continues forth with a lot of rape and genitalia scenes. The dialogue lamely tries for comedy and horror, but the actors don't seem like they are trying very hard to make it happen.
I will say that this is surely different but predictable with no suspense and a storyline just barely making any sense at all.

Happy Halloween!

Posted : 11 years, 8 months ago on 6 November 2012 12:07 (A review of Halloween)

Among the first original horror films to be "raped in the sequels". Others included in this group were Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. Horror movies shouldn't have afters. I feel if it would have been left be, I would still be worried about where Michael Myers went after being shot out of the window.
That said, this is one of the best. John Carpenter at his best, I believe. It is a simple story of the boogeyman and the good girl that has played in horror movies before and after, but Carpenter told the tale in a real way that so many moviegoers could relate to even to this date. Babysitters were depended on then in 1978 and still today to care and protect children when their parents are away no matter if it is a neighborhood girl/boy or a "sister". But what if, what if - the boogeyman showed up?! And in the beginning of the movie... what if the boogeyman was your brother?! Simple, scary & memorable music, plain dialogue and scenes that delivered and still do.
Michael Myers is a scary fellow, but not only him - you can't think of the movie without thinking of the two strong performances of Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance. Without them, I don't believe the movie would have held together and been such a great movie after so many years. It just ain't October Horror Movies without a viewing of the original Halloween.
